Taking root with a new Shopify ecommerce storefront
Molbak's is the Northwest's premier home, garden, and landscaping destination. Since its humble beginnings in 1956 in Woodinville, Washington, the nursery has grown into the largest indoor nursery in the region and a destination for area gardeners. In addition to helping customers meet their DIY gardening needs, the Molbak’s team also helps customers with custom landscape design and installation services.
The Challenge
The Molbak’s team came to Bear Group wanting to move their website to a more stable platform, bring more of the in-person experience to the online experience, better showcase products and services, and expand with further ecommerce offerings. A new Shopify storefront was the perfect foundation to help the business thrive.
The Solution
Longtime design partner, Design Hovie Studios, began working with Molbak's team to determine the new site’s information architecture, set the design direction based on a recent re-brand, and plan the user experience (UX). With the design and UX plan in hand, Bear Group got to work on the build.
After getting the Shopify storefront set up, we created custom Shopify features allowing the Molbak’s team to add and update their wide variety of featured plants. We also built a custom app for a third-party tool, Rapid POS, that connects to their payment gateway system. In addition, we customized Shopify to allow the Molbak’s team to easily manage an “Upcoming Events” section as well as adapt the look and feel of their blog.
Our frontend development team polished off styling the pages on the new storefront as well as adding parallax animation elements to further bring the site to life for visitors.
The Results
With the new Shopify website launched, Molbak’s is now able to share their wide plant selection and gardening knowledge with even more customers. The new website enables the Molbak’s marketing team to more easily produce and share blog posts and event announcements, as well as feature their large catalog known as the “Plant Library.”
