Beecher's Handmade Cheese
A Magento Multi-Site Project
Meet Beecher's Handmade Cheese
There are thousands of different varieties of cheeses. The slightest change in environment, the type of salt, or the diet of the cattle can have an enormous impact on taste. Beecher’s Handmade Cheese take the task of taste to heart, producing cheeses of all types of textures and flavors.
A favorite of locals and an exciting discovery for visitors to the city, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese is known for its artisanal quality.
Unified Ecommerce Operations
Wanting to standardize their ecommerce operations, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese engaged with our team to rebuild their website, featuring more robust ecommerce options and a modernized content strategy. Bear Group had worked with members of the Sugar Mountain team before when we had developed and launched a website for Mishima Reserve. This new project would utilize the systems and design pattern of the Mishima Reserve site, customizing it to fit Beecher’s brand.
One of the benefits of Magento Commerce Cloud is that it can support multiple site instances. Working with the same platform we had initially built for Mishima Reserve, we created a new site for Beecher’s Handmade Cheeses.
While appearing as a separate website to the user, Beecher’s Handmade Cheeses is managed from the same administrative center as Mishima Reserve. While the brands and catalogs are are unique, maintaining two ecommerce infrastructures would have doubled their development and site management costs. We leveraged Magento’s capabilities to support multiple stores to create a new website, domain, and sales channel for Beecher’s Handmade Cheeses. This uses a single infrastructure for the administrative backend, hosting, integrations, and customer management. Secondary brands are a great use case for multi-site development.
A Customized Look and Feel
We customized the website’s theme, creating a look and feel close to their old site while utilizing Mishima’s theme improvements. Using Beecher’s style guide, we incorporated their branding, typography, website colors, buttons, and calls to action throughout the website.
We manually migrated all product inventory, attributes, and categories from their previous website into their Magento website. On the same Magento infrastructure, the two brands share the same payment gateways, fulfillment integrations, Cloud hosting, and Magento Commerce Cloud license. On the back-end, however, the site administrators can easily manage customers and orders distinct to each store, with separate catalogs, content, and themes for each domain.
Drupal for Custom Content
We integrated Beecher’s Magento website with a Drupal CMS for better content management capabilities. We repurposed the website theme we had used on the front-end of their Magento website to maintain a coherent appearance across both platforms. We migrated all content, including pages from their Cheese Education and Recipes sections, as well as Cafe pages and other general content. All pages underwent a thorough QA that checked for formatting.
Additionally, Beecher’s moved forward with the creation of new content on their Drupal website, and directed our team in creation of updated About pages and Shop pages. Working with their team and their web designers, we created custom paragraph types that their team could use to build new pages on the fly, without needing any development assistance.
The new Beecher’s Handmade Cheese website launched in April, 2019. Fully optimized for both ecommerce and content marketing with integrated Magento and Drupal platforms, the new beechershandmadecheese.com is a perfect reflection of the artisanal quality of their product, built with the operational efficiency of a single ecommerce system.
