The 6 Things You Need to Know About Brigit Schroeder

Where did you grow up? What is your favorite memory of growing up there?

I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona, where everyone has a pool. All summer long, my friends and I would go to a pool party at a different friend’s house each day.

Are there any books/T.V. series that you are currently reading/watching? Any that you would recommend?

My husband and I just finished watching the first season of Buck Rogers and the 25th Century. We thoroughly enjoyed the early 80’s production value combined with the simple characters.

When you’re not at your desk, what are you most likely doing?

I enjoy designing and stitching cross-stitch patterns. When not at my desk, you can find me with a tangle of embroidery thread, fabric, needles, and graph paper.

How did you first become interested in coding?

I started out writing code as a means to an end. As a data analyst, I wrote database queries and Excel macros. Then I taught myself PHP and JavaScript to make interactive charts and graphs. During the process, I came to realize that the part I most enjoyed was not the end result but writing the code itself. I saw the elegance and creativity in coding and still find it to be the most satisfying part of every project.

As far as technology goes, what developments are you most interested in following?

I’m passionate about Drupal 8. I love that it’s built on the Symfony framework and enjoy the power and flexibility it offers.

What is one life goal of yours?

I would like to see a live Duke basketball game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. My husband and I are avid fans and would love to see Coach K. and the Blue Devils.
